Holiday Tour A Success!!
Holiday Tour 2001
The 2001 Holiday Tour was
a success, with approximately 100 people paying
to tour the 5 houses on the tour, as well as Jenkins Memorial
Church. We
received many positive comments regarding the tour itself and
the houses.
The Raleigh Trolley proved quite popular, particularly with the
children
from the Partnership School! Once the neighborhood children spied
Santa
Claus riding the Trolley, we had kids and parents literally lined
up along
the streets to ride and talk with Santa. We will look into how
to leverage
this interest for next year's tour!
As always, there are things
that worked very well, and others that did not
work so well. We will be looking to improve or change the things
that did
not work so well, and enhance and build on the things that did.
In
particular:
What Worked:
Trolley (almost worked
too well, in terms of children wanting to ride)
Santa (see above)
Programs - these were outstanding and received many positive
comments
Food and Entertainment at the Church
One day vs. two days for the tour
What Did Not Work (as well):
Trolley - need to re-think
if and how we use the Trolley for future
tours. It is expensive, and we need to think through how to
avoid "free
rides"
Carolers - we need to ensure we've communicated the purpose
and what we
expect from the children well in advance if we decide to have
the
children caroling again in the future.
8:00 end time for the tour is too late - 7:00 would be a better
end time.
The most crucial element
to a successful tour is early commitment. - of
homes for the tour, of volunteers committed to helping, and early
planning
and notification for publicity purposes.
