Spring Block Party Update:
Rhett
researched the cost of renting a Port-a-John for the Block Party.
The cost is $65. They will deliver it Friday and pick it up on Monday. We
decided to go ahead and rent one for the party. Rhett will arrange it and
let Jan know if he needs a check or another way to arrange payment.
The Attrides have all arrangements for the pig under control. They need to arrange to get a check or reimbursement from Jan.
We do not have music lined up yet. Chris Ernst is going to talk with Frake Hunsell about his band possibly playing. Rhett is going to talk with a friend of his who is a DJ to check on price and availability.
The Johnstons will arrange for the keg of beer. The permits for the street closing and the beer have been taken care of, and Dennis Poteat has them in his possession.
Chris Ernst agreed to purchase the items needed from Sam's. We need to get a list together for him. As far as paper products go, we have plenty of napkins and utensils, but will need plates and cups. We also need to get bottled water and soft drinks. We have plenty of condiments as well. We also need to get some veggie burgers for any vegetarians. Jan will work with Christina on putting a list together and getting that to Chris, and Jan will work out payment/reimbursement.
Chris Ernst also has two long tables that we can use for the Party. Others are encouraged to bring card tables too. And of course, side dishes are to be provided by the neighbors.
Christina is going to get the flyer ready to distribute by this weekend.
100th Anniversary Poker Tournament/Party:
Rhett Fussell and Ben Kuhn have made great progess on the coordination of the Poker Tournament. The tentative date for the tournament/party is October 8th. There will be food and music in addition to the poker tournament.
The Sheraton downtown is donating the space, and they have also agreed that if we get a beer sponsor to donate the beer, they will allow us to bring that in.
The Boys & Girls Club of Wake County is nearly confirmed as the co-sponsor/beneficiary. Rhett is working out final details with the National organization. The National Boys & Girls Clubs are also working on a joint marketing arrangement with Budweiser on an anti-teen drinking campaign. That relationship may help us with the beer sponsorship (somewhat ironically).
On the legal side of things, Ben is working with the Attorney General's office, the Wake County District Attorney's office, the Raleigh Chief of Police, and the Wake County Sherriff's Department. He is going to try to get a joint meeting together with the DA, Chief of Police, and the Sherriff in the next couple of weeks to discuss the legal issues. MaryAnn Turner provided a contact at Raleigh Little Theater who may provide some assistance. RLT has run Casino Nights and may be able to provide some organizational information. Ben will contact them.
The plan is to start working on prizes once the legal and large sponsorship aspects are worked out, probably by the June meeting.
T-Shirts
There will be an additional set up charge to do the blue T-Shirts. We agreed that depending on the charge, we will increase the price of the t-shirts to offset this. We are still trying to find out if the company is going to charge another set up fee because of the slight change in the design of the t-shirts in general. Again, depending on what this turns out to be, we agreed we will increase the price if we need to. So far 23 t-shirts have been pre-ordered, and of that 23, 11 are for blue shirts. If an increase in price is necessary, David will notify those who have pre-ordered to let them know.
