HGBNA Meeting Wednesday, April 7, 2004 First on the agenda was Pete Evans,
speaking to us on behalf of the Neighborhood Preservation &
Housing Task Force (NPHTF). Pete presented a brief overview and
background of the Task Force and then took us through the 12 Key
Recommendations presented to the City of Raleigh. Their complete
proposal and recommendations, as well as responses to the proposal,
can be found on the City of Raleigh web page, here: The Task Force is soliciting support of neighborhoods and individuals for their proposal, and are urging the showing of support through contact with our City Council representative, Thomas Crowder. The recommendations are currently being reviewed by the Law & Public Safety Committeed. After Pete's presentation, we turned to our Matching Grant approval for the neighborhood mural, median signs and median improvements. Our "payment" for these items is through volunteer work hours ("sweat equity") on the 3 projects. We are planning several work days in April, May, and June to achieve the required number of volunteer hours to pay for our share of the Grant. Please check the web site frequently for notifications of the designated work days and ways you can help. In addition, we will send notifications through e-mail and flyers, as appropriate. We hope to get a great response from all of our neighbors for these exciting projects, so stay tuned! We then moved on to the plans for the Spring Block Party, which will be held on Saturday, May 22nd, from 5:00 p.m. until dusk. Rain date is Sunday, May 23rd. This year, the Block Party will be held on the Brooklyn side of the neighborhood, on North Boylan between Devereux and the entrance to Fred Fletcher Park. The Association will provide hot dogs, beverages, and all paper goods. All neighbors are asked to bring a covered dish to share. There will be a live band playing for us as well: Tom DeVito and Good Question will provide music. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for a good time socializing with your neighbors. Other business: - The H.A.N.D.S. neighborhood cleanup is Tuesday, April 20th. Please refer to flyers distributed to the neighborhood, and to the website link, for more information. - May 12th is the next meeting to review/discuss the proposed dog area in Fred Fletcher Park.
