Committee Reports – Need to find out progress since last
meeting
-Members?
Communications? Goals, etc.? Next steps, action items? Help Needed?
1.
Communications
a. Christina sent an e-mail admonishing members to get in touch
about a good time to meet and asking for feedback on initiatives
b. To begin, work on the comprehensive e-mail list of ALL of our
neighbors- get out, ring doorbells, etc.
c. Re-commission block captains- garner fresh blood for the roles
and define responsibilities
d. The communications committee may be seen as the “glue”
for the other committees.
e. Get in touch with Jan or Christina about needs of the committees-
any.
2.
Social
a. Two new members
b. Next topic is getting together on the block party and the particulars
c. Firm date for block party? Saturday, June 22nd, 4PM “until”
with rain day the following day, Sunday the 23rd – LOCATION
TBD
d. Ideas: T-shirts, dog wash?
e. Re-iterated the concept of separating social and fundraising
events
f. Jill Averitt has a printer that may be able to provide gratis
work for the association. She’ll be providing hot dogs for
the block party. (;
g. Next event- the holiday tour of homes- need to publicize continually
h. There is an idea of having the next meeting at the IMAX theater
in downtown. (5/7 perhaps). The thought was that we may need to
shift the meeting to a Friday evening to accommodate. Last show
on a weekday is at 5PM
i. Roy will be helping Jen out with the activities as head of
the Social committee as Jen’s time becomes more shy.
j. Idea floated of possibly moving the Holiday Tour into its own
committee for organization (divide and conquer!)
3.
Finance
a. Four new members
b. Discussion of moving dues payment to September and possibly
nominations and voting as well
c. Idea for next year floated of being involved in phone support
for the WUNC telethon drive- free public recognition while helping
a good cause
4.
Community Affairs
a. New members
b. Phil read the group’s mission statement, reproduced elsewhere
on the site
c. Reminded all that public opinion definitely makes a difference!
d. Report of Paul Barringer almost getting hit at the newly-widened
ramp onto Glenwood- expressed the need to be careful and to police
that we regain the fundamentals to make it a pedestrian –
friendly area once construction on Glenwood Bridge finishes.
e. Nina Schlossberg is trying to get us a meeting to discuss the
issues surrounding this
f. Talked of keeping the lights in the neighborhood in character
with the old-style charm.
g. Reminder to use common sense in light of continued breakins
and being accosted. No valuables in cars, and use alarm systems
and door locks when unattended!
5.
Community Outreach
a. Liz to contact new members shortly after meeting
b. Pursuing ideas of Welcome basket for new neighbors and block
captain reporting in synergy with the other committees
6.
Community Improvements
a. New Members
b. Want to prioritize getting signs in the borders of the neighborhood
c. Idea floated about getting house number signs- Jill looking
into this
d. New architect moving into the offices attached to Jill &
Richard Averitt’s house, facing MoJoes- planning on painting
a neighborhood-themed mural there. Entertaining all ideas as to
the artists. Please contact Jill. Free is always a plus, as we
have little in the way of funds to pay for one.
e. Work continues on the logo, per Jill and a group of idea-folks!
f. Both could work as ideas for t-shirts when finished.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Perennial
& Herb Sale: 4/26-27 415 N. Boundary 844-2923
Volunteers for shifts needed: 26th from 8-12 and 12-4 and 27th
from 12-4
H.A.N.D.S.:
Last part of May (TBD) 21-30th
Note:
If we put a garden in the garden show, and this year was an indicator,
we could get up to 400.00 as a prize for doing so…
Discussed getting the word out to neighbors about upcoming events
and it seems like having flyers one month before, followed by
a note 2 days before and then an e-mail the night before may pull
more people into being involved.
Jan
has sent out the Committee Report form for use in concisely reporting
meeting minutes
Discussed
voting issues and the idea of perhaps having quarterly “major
issue” votes, and letting the smaller majority decide the
more day-to-day issues
Present
major issues at the open house as an incentive for people to come
to the larger-decision meetings.
No
more E-vites except for the Social Gatherings.
Need
to update the Calendar- get updates and clarifications from Chris,
Jill, and Jan
At
social event months, we will continue to have a brief planing
meeting beforehand.
Considered
changing the start time for meetings to 7PM in light of no longer
having a pot luck and dividing the meetings into shorter administrative
and longer social gatherings
